THE FRIENDS:

[SIMONE WINTERS, M.D.] Mid to late 30s, African American. "Love made you stupid," or at least

that's Simone's excuse for abandoning her best friend, Alex, once he got married. One of Alex's

oldest friends, Simone is happy to be back in Alex's life now that his perfect marriage isn't so

perfect anymore. Brilliant, successful, and attractive, if Simone has to hear one more time that

men "are intimidated by her intelligence and beauty and that's why she's still single," she's going

to hurt somebody. She is and always has been one of "the boys" in spirit, despite her beauty and

success. In fact, she, Alex, and their oldest friend Julius, have been down with each other since

they discovered they were all obsessed with the New York Knicks. A pediatrician who isn't overly

fond of children, Simone could stand to lose a few pounds, but is nonetheless a great catch that

should've been snagged up long ago. She is also a truth-teller -with a heavy dose of humor and

not enough self-editing, she always tell Alex what he needs to hear and he loves her and hates

her for it. Right now, for instance, he loves her for coming to his rescue now that his life's in

turmoil; and hates her for reminding him that she told him he was pole-vaulting over the broom a

little too quickly...SERIES REGULAR

[JULIUS DARREN] Mid to late 30s, African-American. "This is exactly why I married down."

These are the first words out of the mouth of Alex's oldest friend when he hears that the most

stable marriage he knows is not so stable anymore. And how did he discover this information?

Alex's estranged wife, Carla, called Julius to tell him. She said things were tough between them

right now and Alex could use his best friends. So, Julius called Simone and they headed to Alex's

house for a long, rough round of "I told you so." Currently separated from his own wife (the one

he "married down" to get), Julius unabashedly doles out unsolicited marriage advice to Alex.

Julius is a working class guy and unlike his childhood friends (Alex and Simone), he didn't finish

college... Actually, he never enrolled, never attended a single college course, not even for a day.

But he prefers to characterize his lack of college education as having "not finished." He owns

JD's Extermination Professionals (JDEP) -a successful and growing business with three

locations. Julius never gets tired of reminding Alex and Simone that they may have 5 degrees

between them, but he's the one who's clocking the "paper." Because there's always a home with

a termite infestation, Julius actually makes more money than either of his college-educated

friends... And he's using that money to convince his wife to move back into their home. Though

his marriage is on the rocks, he's eager to "get back in there" by dating his wife again and

promising to work out their issues...SERIES REGULAR
